Tig Notaro (“Transparent,” “The Sarah Silverman Program,” “The Office”) will star in her first HBO comedy special, the pay cabler’s Michael Lombardo, president of programming, announced Thursday at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena.

“Tig Notaro is a ‘comedian’s comedian’ whose uniquely fearless and always funny voice has won acclaim from critics and fans alike,” Lombardo said. “I’m so happy that we will be able to introduce this remarkable performer to a larger audience.”

The standup special, which will tape in front of a live audience, will draw on Notaro’s personal experiences, including her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2012 and her mother’s death.

The special is set to film later this year.
