Best Thing on the Internet Today: Tig Notaro’s “Live”

Back in August, comedian Tig Notaro took the stage at Largo in Los Angeles and started her set.“Hello! Good Evening. Hello. I have cancer. How are you?” What came after was 30 minutes of whatLouis CK said was one of only a handful of “truly great, masterful” sets he has seen in his 27 year career. After revealing her cancer diagnosis, Notaro tells the story of a very tough year, which includes a series of other illnesses, the death of her mother and an awful break up. The set instantly became legendary, even though it was only seen by a few hundred people that night at Largo.

Now, the audio from Notaro’s set – entitled Live (as in “live life to the fullest,” not Live at Leeds) – isavailable on Louis CK’s website for only $5 (a portion of the proceeds will go to “charities associated with fighting breast cancer”).  Early reviews suggest that it lives up to the hype. I’ll admit that I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet (I did dish out five bucks), so my “Best Thing on the Internet Today” designation might seem dubious. So, let’s say that I’m awarding today’s honours to “the fact that it is available.” Does that work for you?
